Hello, just signed up for a Hostek account and need to migrate a DB from an old VPS hosting provider. I have about 20 tables and some tables have thousands of rows. Are there good instructions on how to first backup my DB via SQL Server Management Studio and then take the backup file and restore it to the SQL version on Hostek either through SQL Server Management Studio or the Hostek DB tools they provide.

I can backup the file onto my local machine, but then when I go to my DB on Hostek and try to "restore from disk" using SQL Management Studio, I get a permissions denied.

I don't even know if you can backup/restore across different editions of MS SQL so don't want to waste hours if it can't be done.

I'd prefer not to import tables using Excel which is what I have done in the past. It takes hours to clean up the files to get them to import into a empty DB table.

Thanks.

Hello,

You can follow the http://forum.hostek.com/showthread.php?586 post to get your database ready and then use "MS SQL Tools" link in WCP control panel for myLittleBackup (or direct link - https://sqltools.ezhostingserver.com/mlb/) to upload and restore the database. If the bak file is too large or you run in any problems feel free to open a support ticket with our team at http://support.hostek.com or send an email to [email protected]
