This article is designed to help you get started on driving more traffic to your website.

First we must understand that organic search results (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_search) are always being improved to increase the likelihood that people who search google for example will find what they are looking for.

Does this mean that if our content matches what they will be looking for then we will be the top results right?

That's not entirely true, there are several things to take into account. The single most important step to driving traffic while discussed in more detail below is to produce relevant content or information in a useful way on your website.

Step 1, begin with the end in mind. When starting your website begin thinking about what type of traffic you will want to attract and choose menu titles, page names, content with this in mind.

Step 2, create a list of key words for your website that apply to what you offer. Generate a list of key words which you believe customers will be searching for to find what you offer and configure your website with these key words in the Metadata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metadata#Metadata_on_the_Internet). If you offer specific products on specific pages, make sure your keywords are specific to the product on that page.

Step 3, regularly create content. As mentioned this is probably the number one way to drive traffic to your website. Add content that covers problems in your industry that your company has solved, remember KEY WORDS are important, be descriptive and don't abbreviate or use slang in the content.

Step 4, useful information, very important. If you intend for customers to find your site and use it then make sure the information you want them to use is front and center. For example don't hide your contact information 3 pages deep if you want customers to regularly contact you, instead add a link or your contact information on each page.

Step 5, nurture an audience with social media. While this is a broad topic you should decide on which social media your company will focus it's efforts on utilizing. After creating a strategy, begin implementing the plan and be consistent, then measure your results. FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube and other sites can generate large amounts of traffic to a website.

When possible measure your results using Google Analytics or other tools. You want to know if changes you make are positive or negative, setting up an account with Google Analytics is free and there are many tutorials about using it to monitor traffic.

There are many additional ways to generate more traffic, please feel free to post your success stories below for others. Remember we do not allow linking to other sites as a sales tactic, any such articles will be deleted and users banned.
