Installing DotShoppingCart on a shared hosting server takes a few steps. First, you will want to ensure you are on a Windows 2008/IIS 7 server. You can contact support to verify this or to have your site moved to a Windows 2008 server. Once you have verified you are on a Windows 2008 server, you can proceed with the following steps to install DotShoppingCart:

1) Install 'Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Edition with Advanced Services' on your computer. It can be obtained at:

2) Download the install package from the DotShoppingCart website at and unzip all files into a directory on your computer.

3) Open a command prompt and go to the "Install" sub-directory of the unzipped files. Then run the following command:
InstDSC.exe .\SQLExpress DotShoppingCart [email protected]
(replace [email protected] with the address that you would like DotShoppingCart to use as its system email address)

NOTE: If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 2008, ensure that you open the command prompt by right-clicking and choosing 'Run as Administrator'.

4) Upload the contents of the DotShoppingCart /web directory into the /wwwroot directory on your website using FTP.

5) Backup the DotShoppingCart database from SQL Express on your computer. You can do this with SQL Server Management Studio, which will also have been installed when you installed SQL Express. Within SQL Server Management Studio, connect to:

Server: .\SQLExpress
Authentication: Windows Authentication

Expand 'Databases', right-click on the 'DotShoppingCart' database, and choose 'Tasks'->'Back Up...'. ( Pay attention to the 'Destination' shown on the next screen. That is where the backup file will be placed.) Click 'OK'

6) Create an MS SQL database and user in your WCP control panel by logging in and choosing 'MS SQL'. Once the database and user have been created, use the 'MS SQL Tools' option to login to 'myLittleBackup'. From there, you can restore the database using the backup that you created in the previous step.

7) Ask support to run the following query on your database(replace 'myDatabaseName' with the actual name of the database and reference this article):

8) Update the connectionString in the web.config file to connect to the database that was just created. Example:

Data Source=myServerAddress;Initial Catalog=myDatabaseName;User Id=myUsername;Password=myPassword;
9) Connect to the database you created with SQL Server Management Studio or with 'myLittleAdmin' in MS SQL Tools and run the following query (replacing myUsername with your actual username):

EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Membership_FullAccess', N'myUsername'
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Membership_BasicAccess', N'aspnet_Membership_FullAccess'
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Membership_BasicAccess', N'myUsername'
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Membership_ReportingAccess', N'aspnet_Membership_FullAccess'
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Membership_ReportingAccess', N'myUsername'

EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Roles_BasicAccess', N'aspnet_Roles_FullAccess'
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Roles_BasicAccess', N'myUsername'
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Roles_ReportingAccess', N'aspnet_Roles_FullAccess'
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'aspnet_Roles_ReportingAccess', N'myUsername'
